Gameplay Publishing was born from a love of the games we remember from childhood, and the great moments that happen when people gather around the table.
It began in 2017, when we opened a board game shop in Copenhagen, Denmark. We often met customers looking for games they remembered from childhood: what had happened to the classics they used to play? Myretuen and Coco Crazy came up again and again. Both had meant a great deal to people, yet neither was still available.
That curiosity became the beginning of Gameplay Publishing. With the support of one of our distributors, we reissued Myretuen in 2019, and Gameplay Publishing was born.
Other classics followed, including Coco Crazy and Derby, originally released as Jägersro in 1956. We brought Derby back in a new edition containing both the original game and a modern variant. At the same time, we began bringing selected modern games to the Nordic market.
We are drawn to games with clean, elegant mechanisms: games that can be learned in a few minutes, yet keep everyone involved around the table. When Mads Emil Christensen showed us an early prototype built around a simple idea and the lively discussions it created, we immediately saw its potential. That game became Hard to Get, which debuted at Essen Spiel in 2023 and was quickly picked up in several countries. In 2026, it was joined by its spin-off, Hard to Get: Pictures.
Coco Crazy has also grown into a family of its own with Coco Crazy Bananas, designed by Marco Teubner.
Today, Gameplay Publishing has grown into our primary business. We still love bringing great classics back to life, but we are increasingly focused on publishing original games that create laughter, connection and memorable moments around the table.
